Great looking website. Along with my parents -&- brother I emigrated
from
Ardrossan to New Zealand in May 1963. Like my mother before me I
attended both Winton and Eglinton schools. Would like to get in touch
with any old friends or school friends. Does anyone know what happened
to Eglinton school ? I understand it was closed not long after I left (
nothing to do with me I hasten to add ). What's happened to the former
school site ? Bob Bryden

My husband (Mick Morrison) and I emigrated to Canada in 1981 with our
two sons, Bob and Dave. I come from Ardrossan and Mick from Saltcoats. I
went to St. Peter's Primary from 1958-65 and then St. Michael's Academy,
Kilwinning from 1965-71, Mick went to St. Mary's from 1958-65 and then
St. Peter's 1965-68. I worked at Beecham's, Irvine from 1972-73 and then
ICI (Nobel House) from 1973-76. Mick worked at Thomson Lockhart,
Kilmarnock and then at McCrindles, Ardrossan. We'd love to hear from
anyone who remembers us. My family (Coulter) still live in Ardrossan and
I try to visit them every year. Great website!!

Terrific website. spending most of my life in god forsaken countries
working on construction sites it's great to have a wee bit of home to
tune into. I was born and bred in Alpine Terrace, Ardrossan. My father
was Andy Killin who worked in the Metlox. Would be great to hear from
anyone who knew the family.
Keep up the good work Andy Killin

I'm trying to make sense of the following: In 1914 in a dedication at
the front of his book "Newton in Makerfield, Its History, with some
account of its people" John Henry Lane wrote:
PETER MAYOR CAMPBELL was born on the 28th May, 1838, "in a house on
the
south side of the High-street of Stevenston," a village in
Ayrshire, and is the younger son of Robert Cunningham Campbell and his
wife Mary, the eldest sister of Peter Mayor of Coatbridge. On the
father's side there was a tradition that the family was descended from
John Campbell, "the soldier," second son of Glencairn, of
Loudon, who took the name "Campbell" after his maternal
grandfather, John of Argyle, through his mother Margaret, in the early
part of the sixteenth century, and inherited her estates in Ayrshire, as
they were the only Campbells in the neighbourhood, and that there had
been a soldier in the family for generations, notably in the Black Watch
and Scots Greys. His father's uncle, John went through the Peninsular.

Dear Hugh,
Delighted to find your homepage. I have just returned from a visit to
Saltcoats where I spent a great time in the Church / Museum there. I was
of course hunting down family history information.
John Lang (weaver) married Mary Lamont in 1819 at the High Church in
Paisley but their issue - James (1820) Elizabeth (1822)(Dec) Elizabeth
1824 and David 1826 were all born in Ardrossan / Saltcoats. James born
in 1820 married Catherine Shankland in 1847 (both at this stage in Fore
St, Kilmarnock). Arrived in Australia in 1848 and it is their daughter
Mary Lang born 1848 who married William Andrew in 1873. Would be pleased
to hear from anyone who recognises any of the above or who would be
willing to swap Lang, Lamont, Shankland information with me.
Kind regards, Elizabeth Dudley

Great web site, I have strong links to the area thru marriage. Married
Jan Meney from Burns Ave, my brother then went and married her sister
Dorothy and we live in Barnsley. We visit at least 3 times a year and
enjoy every minute. Cant beat a hot summers day sat on the South beach
with the best view in Britain. If Nicky Nellany logs on Ive got some
more disgusting jokes for next time I see him. Gary Hall

Back again Hugh and it's always a pleasure to drop in and around your
site. I attended St Mary's then St Mick's (Irvine), left Saltcoats to
join Royal Navy. Travelled to Australia where I met my future wife. We
were married in St Brendan's and returned to Australia 28 years ago. If
anyone remembers me, please feel free to contact me. Regards and thanks.

My dad, John Jackson, emmigrated from Stevenston in 1925 to the United
States. I am just starting to look at his family tree. I know he had
relatives or friends named Duffin. My brother visited your town in 1970
and met many wonderful natives. I hope to visit your area someday
myself. Anyone who might know about the Joseph Jackson family (I have to
check with my uncle on the address) can e-mail me at 1bengel@home.com.
Thank you. Kathleen (Jackson) Engel of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. (Also,
the original family name was Widdup) Kathy Engel
