Thank you for all the wonderful information on this site it is
tremendous! I am researching the GILMOUR family of Irvine and would love
to hear from anyone with a connection to either Smellie Kay GILMOUR
(b.1892 Catrine d.1950 Irvine) or William MacMillan GILMOUR (b.1892
Catrine living at 61 Hamilton St. Saltcaots in 1919). I know "Smilley"
was President of a Chemical factory (which I now believe to be ARDEER)If
anyone can confirm this I would be most grateful in fact any information
would be appreciated. Or if there are any descendents still in Saltcoats
I would love to hear from them. Many Thanks Myra

often. I have fond memories of Scotland from going over the shore in

Dear Hugh,
My father was from Stevenston and I would like to find information
regarding his family. My father was from a family of 8 children: James,
Mary, Elizabeth, Hugh, John, Joseph, Peter, Margaret. Their parents were
Joseph and Margaret (McEvoy from Kilwinning)Jackson. I believe that they
left for the United States in 1926. My grandfather Joseph was born in
Stevenston to James Jackson and Elizabeth Payne. When my grandfather was
young his father (James) died and I believe that Elizabeth Payne
remarried someone named Robb and proceeded to have five children. If
anyone knew a Payne family (from Stevenston I believe)I would like to
speak with them.
Thank you for this site. I can't tell you how surprised I was to find a
site from Saltcoats/Stevenston. Mary Magee

Nice to see a site dedicated to my home town. Lived in Stevenston from
birth (1966) until moving to Canada in 1976. Went to Hayochs Primary
(hope I spelled it right) and even lived in Lumsden Place next door to
the school before it was knocked down. Hung out with Jim Norvel, Kenny
Hankinson, Steven Tait, and a few others that I have lost touch with.
Lots of great memories playing down at the "burn". Hope
someone sees this who remembers. Innes Malcolm
