    Historic addresses and un-registered deaths.

    Postby TimElliott » Wed Mar 10, 2010 3:17 pm

I am curious about whether the buildings that my ancestors lived in are still standing today.

In 1841 they are listed at "Quay Houses" in Ardrossan, and in 1851 at 56 Glasgow St. Are the current buildings of a suitable vintage?

Also I am having trouble finding the death of a William Liston, fisherman, between '41 and '51. Does anyone know where the death would be registered, if at all, if he drowned at sea? I am aware of cholera claiming large numbers around this time and the victims being interred an-mass, but were the deaths still recorded as normal? His death is not in the registers, but his wife is listed as a widow in 1851. Any clues would appreciated.

Hi Tim ,I should explain that Saltcoats at that time was half in Ardrossan Parish, and half in Stevenston Parish.
